Officials from across the DC area are preparing a heavy defense against the mentally ill at Sunday’s Unite the Right rally by keeping anarchists, almost entirely Democrats from “blue state” regions. Hundreds of supporters of freedom who are expected to descend on the nation’s capital this weekend say they feel safer knowing that the full support of the Washington D.C. law enforcement is behind them. A supporter of Unite the Right, Paras Prakash of the D.C. metro area, was quoted as saying, “I feel much safer knowing those dirty rats that call themselves intellectuals are far away from our Muslim immigration protest group.” Prakash, an immigrant himself, although from India, then went on to explain why Sikh immigrants should be prioritized over immigrants from Muslim countries.
DC officials said they will keep the two groups separated, even as both sides have been given permission to gather at Lafayette Park. Two law enforcement officers also died last year in a helicopter crash at a nearby golf course. DC Chief of Police Peter Newsham was overheard saying that law enforcement officers on Sunday will ensure that the two opposing groups are kept apart. “I can tell you, we’re gonna make sure that that happens,” Newsham said. “With whatever we need to do. We have our AR-15’s locked and loaded and we are gonna make sure to bust one directly into the cranium of anyone who calls them assault rifles. Make sure that they never even have a moment to file another one of those damn brutality claims. 6 feet under. Any less and you’re working the desk.” DC Mayor Muriel Bowser also issued an order Thursday activating the city’s emergency operations center, which allows local, state, and federal agencies to work together to respond to incidents.
Permits have been issued for counter demonstrations, indicating that up to 1,000 people may attend. “Our number one goal is to make sure nobody gets hurt and no property gets destroyed,” Newsham said in a public statement on Thursday.
